Child actors who ended up okay
December 2, 2014
Erik Per Sullivan- The name isn’t too familiar I’m sure, but I bet it’s eating at you right now because you’ve heard it. Eric Per Sullivan got his big break and is most noted for his role as Dewey on “Malcolm in the Middle.” The Swedish born actor has since attended USC and is living a fairly normal life. Actually his co-stars Frankie Muniz and Justin Berfield are doing quite well also, one living in Arizona and the other working for Richard Branson.
Neil Patrick Harris- If you don’t know who Neil Patrick Harris is then climb out from the rock you’re living under. One of the stars of the hit show “How I Met Your Mother,” Neil Patrick Harris has really made a name for himself in television, movies and even a bit in stage performances. His big break came in the 80’s and 90’s TV show “Doogie Howser” where he played a teenage genius that was a licensed physician. We all know how he’s doing and we’re glad he’s been able to be so successful.
Scarlett Johansson- Scarlet Johansson is another child actor who luckily turned out a massive star while growing up. Surprisingly, Johansson got her child actress start in the family classic “Home Alone 3” and before that, “Just Cause” with Laurence Fishburne and Sean Connery. She got her big break in 2003 when she starred in “Lost In Translation” with Bill Murray. Today, she’s all over the Marvel superhero universe as Black Widow and can say that she has starred in the third highest grossing movie of all time, “The Avengers.”
Malcolm David Kelley- Like Erik Per Sullivan, this name isn’t the most recognizable- at first. Kelly got his start in various one-off TV appearances, but you will most like recognize him from the extremely hard to follow show “Lost.” He plays Michael Dawson’s son Walt, and I hope I don’t spoil anything for you, but he gets kidnapped on the island. Kelly worked on small projects after that, but the really shocking part about his career is where he is at now. Kelly is actually the second member of the dup music group MKTO, who put out the Platinum hit “Classic” this year.
Leonardo DiCaprio- Most people know Leonardo DiCaprio from his Scorsese films such as “Shutter Island,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” or his role in the mind-bending “Inception,” but some don’t know he started out as a child actor. DiCaprio first got his start like many others, in television. He started out getting small parts in TV shows like “The New Lassie” and “The Outsiders.” He first got his big break on the big screen in 1993 where he played alongside Johnny Depp in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” and his career took off from there. He’s doing big things now, and we’re just glad to see that he didn’t lose his way like some who start out in the spot light at such a young age.
