The lowdown

The ISU women’s basketball team started its season off with a 98-76 win against USC Upstate.

Iowa State came out on fire, jumping ahead 14-0 early and never looking back. ISU center Bryanna Fernstrom led her team’s charge with 25 points, while Brynn Williamson and Seanna Johnson both put up double-doubles for the Cyclones.

Bryanna Fernstrom: The 6-foot-5 freshman got the first start of her career Nov. 16 and took full advantage of it. Fernstrom connected on her first four shot attempts to help Iowa State build a 14-0 lead. She went on to finish with 25 points, the most ever by an ISU women’s basketball player in a freshman debut.

2: Double-doubles for the ISU women’s basketball team. ISU senior Brynn Williamson scored 13 points and grabbed 12 boards and sophomore Seanna Johnson netted 20 points to go with 10 rebounds.
