Editorial: Treat break like a break
November 24, 2014
Whether we are spending time at home with our families over break, traveling or just stuffing our faces with turkey, we all need a little break from our school work to actually relax.
It is no doubt that college students have multitude of stresses at school. As we round out the semester, the numbers of projects, papers and assignments are starting to build. It is easy to get carried away during break with homework and forget what Fall Break is: a break.
While it is not suggested that students spend the entire break vegging out in front of the television, students deserve this week to take time off from school. Thanksgiving is a time to spend with family and friends and to share with each other what we are thankful for.
We are probably thankful for having the opportunity to gain an education at Iowa State, but we could also be thankful for the opportunity to take a small break. It is smart to stay ahead in classes during break. There is no point in creating the extra pressure on yourself the week we come back because we spent the entire break Netflix binge watching all of the episodes of “New Girl.”
However, it wouldn’t be bad to watch a little more television than normal and enjoy the company of people whom we haven’t seen in a while and to spend quality time with our family and friends.
Students, we deserve this break. Try not to become overly stressed this Thanksgiving because we are so focused on school. We can all spend at least some of this break relaxing and being thankful for the time when have to do so.
