NFL: Browns take first place in AFC North after TNF
November 7, 2014
In a tight AFC North divisional race and with November already upon us, the Cincinnati Bengals needed to take advantage of their Thursday night opportunity against the 5-3 Cleveland Browns in the most up in the air division.
Instead, the now 6-3 Browns stomped the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-3, in yet another unwatchable Thursday Night Football game. Quarterback Brian Hoyer completed 15 of 23 passes for 198 yards. Where his opponent QB, Andy Dalton, was 10-33 for 86 yards and 3 INT’s.
The defense, though, was the star of the show against the Bengals, forcing Cincinnati into four turnovers. The unit held rookie running back Jeremy Hill to only 55 yards just after his explosion onto the NFL scene in Week 9.
Dalton’s completion percentage on a minimum of 30 passes is the worst the league has seen since 1992. Despite his many weapons, he simply could not connect.
AJ Green, the Bengals top WR who is just getting back from injury, only had three catches for 23 yards on 10 targets, with a long of 11 yards. Mohammad Sanu had two catches for 20 yards on seven targets, with a long of 18.
Now tied with the Steelers at 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the division, the Browns will host the Houston Texans next Sunday in their final game before their explosive wide receiver Josh Gordon rejoins the team after an 8 game suspension due to the use of Marijuana.
The Bengals (5-3-1) will road trip to New Orleans next week in the hope of moving past this game.
