ISU After Dark features comedians
November 6, 2014
This Friday ISU After Dark features two comedians, Ivan Pecel and Steve Rannazzisi, at the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.
The headliner, Steve Rannazzisi, known for his role as Kevin on “The League,” has been in the comedic spotlight since 2003. He has guest starred in a variety of television shows, such as HBO’s “Sex in the City” and NBC’s “Third Watch.”
“I’m really looking forward to Rannazzisi,” said Sam McPherson, president of ISU After Dark. “He has a lot of adult humor and I’m a big fan of the show, ‘The League.’”
Opening for Rannazzisi is juggler and comedian, Ivan Pecel. Pecel has known he wanted to be an entertainer since the age of ten.
“I met friends who were doing this [juggling] working cruise ships and I’m lucky I did,” Pecel said. “A lot of it was watching their shows and then it was a matter of doing the comedy stuff.”
Pecel grew up in Los Angeles and visited comedy clubs and open mics to practice his stand up material. After getting a degree in film production, Pecel moved to Las Vegas and began to form his comedy and juggling career.
“My family just told me, ‘As long as you get your degree, you can do your monkey show,’” Pecel said.
Pecel’s slogan is “making juggling tolerable” and said his show is not just for kids.
“It’s a family friendly show, it’s for older audiences as well, like Shrek. The kids love it but won’t get all of it,” said Pecel.
Helping ISU After Dark coordinate these acts is Student Union Board’s Special Events Committee.
While it is unusual for there to be two comedy acts on the same night, SUB’s Special Events Director, Deanna Le, said the free admission of ISU After Dark should draw a crowd.
“Comedians are usually cheaper, so students probably prefer comedians, especially since this event, which is completely free,” said Le.
ISU After Dark will place from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. this Friday in the Memorial Union.
Doors will to open at 8:30 p.m. and Ivan Pecel will perform at 9 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union. Steve Rannazzisi will perform at 11 p.m. and doors are scheduled to open at 10:30 p.m. in the Great Hall.
All ISU After Dark events are free to students.
