ISU women’s golf coach Christie Martens has built her program to a perennial NCAA tournament participant by establishing an international recruiting presence.

With the signing of Parinda Phokan, a native of Thailand, the trend continues as Martens has added her first recruit for the 2015-16 season.

Phokan will join a line of Thai players who have been heavy contributors to the ISU women’s golf team during Martens eight-year tenure as head coach.

A Thai player currently holds the Iowa State record for most career rounds played (Punpaka Phuntumabamrung), low-18 hole career average (Sasikarn On-iam) and low-18 hole season average (Chonlada Chayanun).

She will join two other Thai golfers next season in current freshman Nattapan Siritrai and sophomore Pimrawee Huang, as well as help to replace current Thai senior, Chonlada Chayanun.

Coming in at No. 330 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Phokan is the No. 13 amateur from Thailand.

Phokan has competed internationally in several professional and amateur events and was a member of the Thai team that took second place at the Santi Cup.
