We Are The Willows Album Release

Laurel Feakes

We Are The Willows will release their second album “Picture (Portrait) Pt.1” on Nov. 4.

We Are The Willows is an orchestral indie-rock ensemble that have a unique sound. Comparable to Arcade Fire, We Are The Willows strives to connect with fans through their music and hope that their fans can change themselves for the better.

I hope that people will connect with the songs in a way that is meaningful to them. I hope it causes them to feel things that motivate them to engage with the world in a better way”, said frontman Peter Miller.

“Picture (Portrait) Pt.1” is the first time listeners will hear the band as a six-piece band. Miller said the album has an expansive sonic pallet. It gives listeners a medium to connect to and give fans a deeper meaning to their own lives.

The album is based on Miller’s grandfather’s letters to Miller’s grandmother during World War II. Miller’s grandfather was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He looked to Miller’s grandmother for hope and credits her for saving his life.  Aesthetically, the sound is authentic and real because of the voice Miller tried to capture through those letters.

The lyrics generate hope and inspiration for fans alike. Miller hopes that when people buy the album it becomes something that can help them find their own voices. The lyrics also describe the people that are in our lives who matter most, which is a popular theme throughout the album.

“People value the things that are true and genuine about other people. When I encounter someone doing something wholly unique and true to their self, it makes me feel like I have the freedom to do that too. That’s incredibly powerful,” Miller said.

“Picture (Portrait) Pt. 1” is available Nov. 4. Details about part two of the album will be released in the coming months.
