Volleyball to face Western Kentucky in first round of NCAA Tournament
November 30, 2014
With hopes of hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, the ISU volleyball team learned it will instead hit the road for a first-round match in Champaign, Ill.
During the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on ESPNU on Nov. 30, the RPI No. 15 ISU volleyball team (18-9, 10-6 Big 12) learned its postseason fate – a first round matchup against RPI No. 35 Western Kentucky (30-5, 15-1 Conference USA).
Despite being inside the top 16 of the RPI, the Cyclones were not chosen as one of 16 host schools for the first and second rounds. Nonetheless, Iowa State has an opportunity to play at Hilton Coliseum if it advances past the second round.
Ames was pre-selected to be one of four regional host sites for the third and fourth rounds and is the portion of the bracket Iowa State was placed in.
The Hilltoppers are the Conference USA tournament champions and are currently on an 11-match winning streak.
The match is slated for 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 at Huff Hall in Champaign, Ill. The winner of Iowa State and Western Kentucky will play the winner of host-school Illinois and Murray State at 7:00 p.m. Dec. 6 at Huff Hall.
