Snapchat leaked: “The Snappening”

Peter O'Brien

Internet hackers have been leaked thousands of videos and pictures through the very common app, Snapchat. However, it was reported by USA Today that the leak was not within Snapchat’s servers, but due to a website called Snapsaved.com, where users can send snaps through their desktop browsers rather than within the app.

Snapchat has become a very popular app that can be downloaded on to smart phones where friends can send pictures and videos to their friends and their friends can look at the picture or video for a certain amount of time. Even though the pictures and videos that are sent can only be seen for a certain amount of time, phone users are able to take screenshots and save the data that was sent to them.

“Snapchatters were victimized by their use of third-party apps to send and receive Snaps, a practice that we expressly prohibit in our Terms of Use precisely because they compromise our users’ security,” a Snapchat spokesperson told ABC News. “We vigilantly monitor the App Store and Google Play for illegal third-party apps and have succeeded in getting dozens of these removed.”

The takeaway from this story is that if you upload nudes to the internet, don’t be surprised when they end up on the internet.
