ISU center Tom Farniok to play against brother

ISU center Tom Farniok will play against his brother, Derek Farniok, for the final time Saturday, Nov. 1 when Iowa State plays Oklahoma. Derek is a redshirt junior offensive tackle for the Sooners. Here’s a quick look at both Farnioks:

Tom Farniok

  • Started all 13 games as a redshirt freshman in 2011
  • Received the Drury Moss Award in 2011, given annually to the best newcomer for ISU football
  • As a redshirt sophomore, Tom started in 13 games, extending his streak to 16 en route to being named to the Big 12 Honorable Mention team
  • Started nine games as a junior after suffering a knee injury in the first game of the season
  • Named to the Rimington Award watch list before the 2014 season. 

Derek Farniok

  • Ranked as a three star recruit coming out of high school by rivals.com. Also ranked as the third best prospect in South Dakota.
  • Along with Oklahoma, had offers from Kansas, UCLA, Minnesota and Wisconsin. 
  • Played in 10 games for the Sooners as a redshirt freshman and made his first career start as a redshirt sophomore. 
  • Has seen action in every game this year as a redshirt junior.
