The Lucas Bros. Take on Maintenance Shop

Emily Benda

Known for their appearance in “22 Jump Street” as the roommates across the hall, the Lucas Bros. are coming to the Maintenance Shop on Thursday, Oct. 16.

While the Lucas Bros. are not as in sync as the brothers they play on screen, the Yang brothers, they do share the same career goals.

In 2009, both Kenny and Keith Lucas dropped out of law school to pursue their dream of standup comedy.

In the last few years, they have created an animated sitcom, “Lucas Bros. Moving Co.” and a new weekly sketch show, “Friends of the People,” which premieres on Oct. 28. “Friends of the People” features seven different characters of various types of comedy and is geared toward a more college-aged audience.

The Lucas Bros. are also scheduled to guest star on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Oct. 31.

“We’re both reasonable people, we don’t step on each other’s ideas. Right now our focus is to stay together. Anything can happen, but I feel like we work well together,” said Keith Lucas.

Kenny and Keith Lucas are touring across the country on their Purple Urkle tour to experiment with new material and get their name out, especially to college students.

However, the brothers have mostly been focusing on their TV sketches and sitcoms.

“I love sitcom writing and movie writing. My goal right now is to create a really good sitcom. I love standup and will always do it, but I think I prefer sitcom writing,” Keith Lucas said.

The Lucas Bros. perform their standup comedy act at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16 in the Maintenance Shop.

Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the show begins at 9 p.m. Admission is free to all attendees.
