They didn’t have to travel very far for their college destination. In fact, they really didn’t have to travel at all.

Get to know the two freshmen for Iowa State that hail from Ames:

Stella Maris Strohman

1. Four year letter-winner at Ames High School, where she was team captain in 2012 and 2013.

2. Named the team’s offensive player of the year during her freshman year of high school. Named the team’s MVP in her junior season, where she helped lead Ames High School to a conference championship.

3. Played club soccer for the Iowa Rush Soccer Club, who were the U18 State Cup Champions.

Laura Friedrich

1. Four year letter-winner at Ames High School.

2. Was a three time All-Conference selection for Ames High School during  her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.

3. Played club soccer for the Iowa Rush Soccer Club, where she helped the team win a State Cup Championship.
