The ISU women’s soccer team ended its non-conference schedule after splitting the weekend 1-1.

Iowa State accomplished its goal of completing a shutout against Drake, winning 2-0, however fell to South Dakota State 2-1.

ISU coach Tony Minatta said non-conference games are tough because the team gets motivated to play teams like USC and Ole Miss and sometimes overlooks teams like South Dakota State.

“It’s Division I soccer and everybody is good — everybody is going to fight hard,” Minatta said. “For a South Dakota State or a North Dakota State, those teams are looking at us as their big game and they’re going to bring everything they have, and if we don’t match their intensity you get the result that you had today.”

Iowa State will begin its Big 12 conference schedule against Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla., on Sept. 26.
