ISU swimmers, divers finish middle-of-the-pack at Big 12’s

ISU swimmers and divers departed the final day of action at the Big 12 Championships the same way they entered it, in third place.
Sophomore Marissa Engel and junior Bre Loeschke kick-started day four of action for the Cyclones with two top-four finishes in the 200 backstroke. Engel and Loeschke tallied a combined 32 points for Iowa State with second and fourth place finishes, respectively.
Junior Amanda Paulson was the high scorer for the Cyclones in the 100 free. She placed fifth in the event, earning 14 points with a time of 50.33.
In the platform diving event, sophomore Elyse Brouillette placed fourth with a 230.75 score, and senior Jessica Henderson placed fifth with a 228.10 score. The pair added 29 points for Iowa State.
The Cyclones ended the day with the 400 free relay. Iowa State, which consisted of Evenson, Paulson, Vollhaber and Townsend, finished fourth with a time of 3:23.62.
Texas led the entire event, and finished 492.5 points ahead of the second-place Kansas. The Cyclones scored 541.5 total points at the championships, 75.5 points behind Kansas.
Iowa State stayed stationary for the majority of Big 12s. By the end of each day, the Cyclones never climbed above second place and never dipped below third.
