The ISU tennis team (6-2, 0-0 Big 12) routed Bethune-Cookman 5-1 Sunday in Daytona Beach, Fla.

As a result of time constraints doubles were not played, leaving the meet to be decided solely by the singles contests.

The Cyclones didn’t disappoint, winning five of the six matches, all in straight sets.

Freshman standout Samantha Budai extended her singles winning streak to seven matches with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Elizabeth Nyenwe at No. 2 singles.

Junior Meghan Cassens handled Maria Sablina at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-3 while freshman Lydia Green out dueled Valentina Beresiarte at the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-0.

Senior Emma Waites defeated Gaby Chinchilla at No. 5 singles, and freshman Talisa Merchiers earned a point for the Cyclones in her first action of the team season by way of a 6-0, 6-3 win versus Maria Dimitrova.

ISU No. 1 player, junior Ksenia Pronina, struggled over the weekend, suffering the Cyclones’ only loss to Mina Matsuba 6-1, 6-3.

Iowa State went 2-0 on the weekend, earning its first victory on Friday against Florida Atlantic in Miami.

The Cyclones return to the court next weekend in Minneapolis to take on the Golden Gophers Friday, Feb. 21.
