ISU gymnastics falls in conference opener

The ISU gymnastics team lost its first conference meet of the season to No. 1 Oklahoma by a final score of 196.675-192.950 on Jan. 17 in Norman, Okla.

In their first road meet of the year, the Cyclones found themselves in an early hole, trailing the Sooners 49.400-48.475 after the first rotation. Oklahoma (2-0, 1-0 Big 12) never looked back, increasing its lead by an average of 0.93 points per event.

Iowa State (1-3, 0-1 Big 12) earned its highest mark of the night on the floor exercise, tallying a team total of 48.675. The top-rated Sooners received their lowest score of the night on the beam with a final count of 48.875.

Oklahoma also earned three event scores in excess of 49 points, racking up 49.150 points on the uneven parallel bars, 49.250 on floor exercise and 49.400 on the vault.

The Sooners were carried by junior Erica Brewer, who beat out ISU gymnasts Caitlin Brown and Henrietta Green to win the All-Around competition with a score of 39.425. Brown and Green finished with season-low All-Around marks of 38.625 and 38.200, respectively.

Iowa State will take on No. 14 Oregon State Jan. 25th in Corvallis, Ore.
