Iowa State’s Georges Niang has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced this morning.

Against Iowa Niang scored a career-high 24 points and went 8-for-15 from the floor while adding two rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.

The last bucket of the game for Niang was the game-winner after he scooped under the hoop for a reverse layup to give Iowa State the lead at 83-82 before a pair of Dustin Hogue free throws were the last points of the game.

This specific award isn’t new to Iowa State as Niang makes it the fourth Cyclone to earn the award this season. He joins Melvin Ejim, Dustin Hogue and Naz Long as winners.

Iowa State’s Deandre Kane has been named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, giving Iowa State six honors already in the early season while no other Big 12 team has earned more than three.

The Cyclones next play Akron on Sun. Dec., 22 in Hawaii at 4:30 p.m. in the Diamond Head Classic.
