The ISU track and field team kicked off the indoor season in Lied Recreation Center when it hosted the Holiday Classic. The Cyclones won 11 events on the night, including six by the men’s team and five by the women’s squad.

A number of runners who just finished cross-country season a few weeks ago did not participate in the meet, allowing recovery time after the quick turn around between the seasons.

Iowa State started off well as Christina Hillman and Jan Jeuschede both brought home titles in the shot put event.

The Cyclones also finished the meet on a high note, as both men’s and women’s 4×400 relay teams won the final two events of the evening.

Mark Johnson, Cameron Ostrowski and Kelly McCoy lead the Cyclones in the jumping events, as Johnson brought home the men’s long jump, Ostrowski the men’s high jump and McCoy won the women’s high jump event.

The Cyclones viewed their first meet of the season as a “rust-buster” and focused on seeing where the athletes were at and what they needed to improve on in the month before the next meet, which is the Big Four Duals on Jan. 18 in Iowa City.
