Whether you’re looking for some clothes, things for your living space or gifts to send back home, Ames has many stores all over town that are sure to have what you’re looking for.

South Duff

Target and Walmart are department stores that have just about anything you can find including home décor, household supplies, furniture, clothing, groceries and school supplies.

There are four cell phone carriers found on South Duff. They are Verizon, US Cellular, T-Mobile and Sprint. Visit these places to help you stay in contact with family and friends.

Main Street

Downtown Ames is the perfect place to go if you’re looking for cute boutiques, chocolatiers, cafes or home décor. There are too many stores to list so it’s best to take some time and walk up and down Main Street. Some of the stores you will find are Café Diem, Chocolaterie Stam, Emerhoff’s Footwear, Great Stuff Ltd., It’s All About Me!, Lyla’s Boutique, Octagon Center for the Arts and the Loft.

Campustown

There are a few boutiques in Campustown to check out between classes or on the weekends. They are Dogtown University, Mayhem Comics and Games, Portobello Road and Random Goods.

North Grand Mall

North Grand Mall has a variety of stores including JCPenney, GAP, American Eagle, Victoria’s Secret, Younkers, Bath & Body Works and Kay’s Jewelers, to name a few. They recently added Kohl’s, GAP Factory Store, TJ Maxx and Shoe Carnival. There is also a Walgreen’s in the parking lot. Grocery Stores

There are six American grocery stores in Ames – East Hy-Vee, West Hy-Vee, Dahl’s, Fareway on 6th Street and Fareway on Stange. All of these are on CyRide routes.

Ames also offers ethnic grocery stores. They are Ames Asian Market West on Dotson Drive, Ames Asian Market on Wheeler Street, AJ’s Market on Welch Avenue (behind The Fighting Burrito), Pammel Grocery and UNI Mart on Lincoln Way in West Ames, Ames British Foods on Douglas Avenue and Asia Foods Store on Lincoln Way in East Ames. Wheatsfield Cooperative on Northwestern Avenue offers some ethnic food as well as organic food.
