ISU cross country and track and field coach Corey Ihmels resigned on Friday afternoon, according to multiple athletes on the team.

Hurdler Ese Okoro tweeted on Friday that “Ihmels was moving to Boise State.” Another source said in a text message “Ihmels resigned to go to Boise State.”

According to a source on the team, Ihmels sent out an email to all track and field athletes this afternoon stating that he had accepted a job at Boise State.

In a story from kivitv.com, an affiliate station in Boise, Idaho, Ihmels said, “I am excited to bring my passion for developing national-class track and field and cross country student-athletes to Boise State.”

Joe Nickell, a sports information director at Boise State, said Ihmels is expected to start at Boise State in the coming weeks.

“We expect him to be on campus in the next couple of weeks, so I’m sure once he’s here he’ll start evaluating what he wants to do as far as a staff goes,” Nickell said.
