March 13, 2013
Four people have been killed and at least two others wounded in shootings in Herkimer County, New York, state police trooper Jack Keller said Wednesday.
The shootings were reported Wednesday morning in two separate upstate New York communities, Herkimer and Mohawk, CNN affiliate WKTV reported.
Authorities are looking for the shooter, Keller said.
The incidents prompted officials to put schools on lockdown in Herkimer and Mohawk, as well in as the nearby municipalities of Ilion, Frankfort, Little Falls, Richfield Springs, Dolgeville, West Winfield, Bridgewater and Newport, said Mark Vivacqua, the Herkimer school superintendent.
“Everything is calm” within the schools, Vivacqua said.
Herkimer and Mohawk, separated by the Mohawk River, are about 70 miles west-northwest of Albany.
