Marc Harding, current director of admissions at Iowa State, will be leaving Iowa State in mid-July to take a position at the University of Pittsburgh.

Phil Caffrey, currently the associate director of admissions, will serve as interim director of admissions, effective July 16. 

According to the ISU news service: “Caffrey recently completed his 30th year in Iowa State’s admissions office, where he began as an admissions counselor in June 1982.” After serving for several years as a recruiter, Caffrey moved into a position where he oversaw Iowa State’s freshman recruitment effort. Caffrey has been responsible for operations and policy in the office of admissions for the past 15 years.

Tom Hill, vice president of Student Affairs, appointed Caffrey to the position.

Caffrey received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology as well as a master’s degree in counselor education, both from Iowa State. According to the news service, Caffrey “has served as co-chairman of the university’s Open Option Task Force and member of ISU’s Athletics Compliance Committee and has received the Regents Award for Staff Excellence and P&S Council’s CYtation Award.”

Harding joined Iowa State’s admissions office in 1997. The positions he will be leaving are assistant vice president for enrollment services and director of admissions. At the University of Pittsburgh, Harding will act as chief enrollment officer, leading the university’s office of admissions and financial aid.
