“Little Dresses for Africa” Work Days at the Workspace

This Saturday and Sunday, April 14th and 15th the Workspace will be having a work weekend for the non-profit organization “Little Dresses for Africa” making pillow case dresses for children in Africa.

According to the organization’s website, Little Dresses for Africa is a non-profit 501c3, Christian organization, which provides relief to the children of Africa. Simple dresses are made out of pillow cases, and distributed through the orphanages, churches and schools in Africa to plant in the hearts of little girls and boys.

Visitors can help make the pillow case dresses by cutting fabric, ironing , or sewing,. Supplies will be provided by the Iowa State Memorial Union Workspace, but donations of new or gently used pillowcases are encouraged.

According to a press release, to date The Workspace has sent over 400 dresses.. The organizations also makes shorts for little boys as well. Online a person can find instructions on the regulations on how to make and label each garment.

According to the organization’s website, “Over one million children in Malawi alone have been orphaned to HIV/AIDS. Because girl orphans are among the most devalued and abused in their culture, and face such oppression, it is the mission of Little Dresses for Africa to plant in the hearts of these little girls that they are worthy.

There is no charge to participate and no pre-registration is necessary.
