Cyclones shine in second week of YMCA Capital City League

Out of the 45 total players who played in three games of the second weekend of the 2019 YMCA Capital City League, four players shined brighter than the rest.

Iowa State freshman guard Caleb Grill, Iowa State junior forward Terrence Lewis, Iowa State senior forward Michael Jacobson and class of 2020 high school recruit N’faly Dante were all on winning teams on Sunday and either scored 19 or more points or had a double-double.

In the first game of the day, the 2019 Fore the Veterans team beat the 2019 Sparta Waste Services team 111-103 thanks to a double-double by former Iowa State guard Kourtlin Jackson.

Cyclone senior guard Prentiss Nixon had a double-double, 27 points on 10 for 32 shooting, five for 20 shooting, and he grabbed 10 rebounds against the Fore the Veterans team in eight point loss.

Drake redshirt junior guard Samm Jones lead the 2019 Fore the Veterans team in scoring with 33 points on 13 for 20 shooting.

Following the first game of the day, the 2019 Des Moines Outreach Lions Clubs defeated the 2019 Walnut Creek YMCA team 133-116, thanks to strong performances by Grill, Jacobson and Dante.

Grill, had 27 points on 10 shots out of 15, he shot six for 10 from beyond the three point line, and he added six rebounds and four assists in a 133-116 win over the 2019 Walnut Creek YMCA team.

One of Grill’s teammates, Jacobson, filled up the stat sheet on Sunday as he scored 19 on seven for 12 shooting while hitting five of eight shots from beyond the three point line. Jacobson also grabbed seven rebounds.

The youngest player in the YMCA Capital City League, Dante, who ranked as the second best center and 11th best player in the class of 2020, had arguably the best performance on the court as he scored 31 points 15 for 24 shooting and grabbed 16 rebounds in a win for the 2019 Des Moines Outreach Lions Clubs.

Incoming freshman Marcedus Leech lead the Walnut Creek YMCA team with 42 points on 17 for 39 shooting and he hit eight three pointers out of 22 shot attempts.

The 2019 MRG International team defeated the 2019 Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic team 141-103 thanks to a 33 point performance by Lewis in the final game of the night.

Lewis shot 15 from 28 from the floor, two for nine behind the three point line and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Incoming Iowa State freshman guard Tre Jackson led the 2019 Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic team in scoring with 37 points shooting 13 for 26 and made seven out of 14 three point attempts.
