Fitness Challenge: Kari Dockum, week #3

Kari Dockum

I was told by some of my fellow Fitness Challengers these blogs are pointless because no one reads them.

False.

Last week, 60 wonderful people read about my bad decisions and excuses. To date, I’ve had 80 views on my first — and equally as funny — foray into fitness blogging.

So what do those numbers tell me? They aren’t staggering, but they mean you are, in fact, reading my blog. They mean there is a point to all my rambling about junk food, my love/hate relationship with Lied and my general quest toward skinniness.

Last Tuesday night, I bought myself a bag of heaven on earth — or, as the general population calls them, Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream potato chips. As I walked upstairs to enjoy my snack, I was stopped on two separate occasions by people asking what I was doing with that bag.

I was shocked. Why would two guys I see maybe twice a week have any interest in my eating habits? Simple — they’ve actually been reading my blog. My mom isn’t the only person paying attention to this!

(Side note: Boden, I admit I ate more than six chips, but cut me a break. It was my first real effort to follow the serving size.)

The rest of my week has been up and down. I went to the gym three times and ate well through Friday. My weekend wasn’t great, but instead of trying to come up with some excuse, I’ll take responsibility and promise to improve next week.

The point is, faithful readers, you’re holding me accountable. You’ve made me realize I don’t want to report failure to you each week. Thank you for giving me the spark I need to consistently hit up the gym and eat right. Keep up the good work, and I’ll do the same.

But please, don’t expect me to give up the occasional McDonald’s double cheeseburger that easily.
