WBB: Stanford slams Iowa State 83-45

The ISU women’s basketball team fell behind early against fifth-ranked Stanford and never recovered, losing 83-45.

The Cyclones (4-1) shot just under 30 percent in their first loss of the season, while the Cardinal (5-1) shot 50 percent, hitting 13 three-pointers, while outrebounding Iowa State 39-30.

Freshman Whitney Williams was the only Cyclone in double figures with a career-high 10 points and fellow freshman Ashley Arlen had nine points and six rebounds. Stanford had four players in double figures, led by Rosalyn Gold-Onwude with 14 points.

The Cardinal jumped out to a 30-9 lead and took a 37-15 lead into halftime, holding Iowa State to 19 percent shooting.

The Cyclones got within 48-24 with just under 14 minutes to play but got no closer after Stanford went on another big run.

Iowa State finishes their play at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic Sunday against San Diego State at 3 pm.
