On Friday and Saturday in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the Cyclones women’s track and field team competed in the Arkansas Invitational.

The competition started with the women’s hammer throw where two Iowa State sophomores were set to compete in. Keiara Williams fouled in the event, leaving her out of the rankings. Iowa State’s other thrower, Essence Henderson, was marked as DNS (did not start).

Saturday started off on a much sweeter note for the Cyclones with sophomore Bailey Righi placing first in the women’s javelin with a heave of 40.50 meters. Later, Iowa State once again took first in the 4×100 meter dash with a time of 47.60. It was a entire second faster than the second place team.

Freshmen Anna Herriott and Brina Kraft competed in the 1500 meter race against 14 other runners on Saturday afternoon. Herriott finished seventh with a time of 5:06.30 and Kraft followed shortly behind in 10th place at 5:21.14.

The next event was the long jump and Iowa State had three different women in competition. Freshman Jessie Stindt placed 10th with a leap of 10.83 meters. Exactly half a meter behind Stindt was her teammate, Jalaiya Bartley, as she claimed 13th in the rankings. The third Cyclone, Erika Furbeck, fouled and therefore kept out of the rankings.

Kaylyn Hall gave Iowa State another first place — this time in the women’s 100 meter hurdle event with a time of 13.97. Shortly after, her teammate Laurel Hoogensen took third in the 800 meter race. She finished in 2:19.06, five seconds shy of lead runner’s time.

The 400 meter race had 21 girls competing against one another. Freshman Alexis Gourrier finished ninth with a running just under a minute at 59.58.

In the last event for the Cyclones, the 800 meter invitational, Maggie Davis finished eighth out of the nine runners with a time of 2:19.57.

The Cyclones will be back in action next weekend, March 29-30, in California at the Stanford Invitational.
