On Friday, big hits propelled the Texas Longhorns to an 11-0 over the Iowa State Cyclones. On Saturday, there was much of the same as the No. 10 Texas Longhorns defeated the Cyclones by a score of 6-1 in Austin, Texas.

While the Longhorns beat the Cyclones by five runs, the Cyclones had one fewer hit than the Longhorns did. However, the six hits that the Longhorns did earn led to more runs as the Longhorns hit two home runs and had six RBI’s.

Senior center fielder Taylor Nearad gave the Cyclones an early lead with an RBI double where senior catcher Kaylee Bosworth scored in the top of the second inning.

Kaitlyn Washington tied the game up for the Longhorns in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to right field.

The Longhorns offense went off in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored five runs off of an RBI single by Shannon Rhodes, an RBI double by Washington and a two-run home run by Bekah Alcozer.

Texas’s five run inning in the bottom of the fourth led to their 6-1 win over the Cyclones.

Texas improves to 28-6 (2-0 Big 12) on the season while Iowa State falls to 17-12 (0-2 Big 12).

The Cyclones and Longhorns will play one more game at noon on Sunday.
