Two involved in Ames car chase

Two juveniles have been referred to Story County juvenile court after being apprehended by the Ames Police Department following a car chase through Ames Saturday night.
The driver of the vehicle, 17-year-old Shavon Brooks, 2617 S.E. 18 Court, Des Moines, was arrested and charged with theft in the second degree, eluding police, possession with the intent to deliver, four traffic citations and no valid drivers license.
“The theft and eluding charges are both a class D felony,” said Ames Police Cmdr. Jim Robinson.
According to Iowa Code, the maximum penalty for a class D felony is no more than five years in jail with the possibility of a fine ranging from $750 to $10,000.
A passenger in the vehicle, Benjamin Dalglesh of Des Moines, was arrested and charged with theft in the second degree.
A third female passenger, whose name has not been released, was apprehended but later released to her parents, Robinson said.
The vehicle, owned by Maria and Mark Erickson of Slater, was stolen from 1005 Top-O-Hollow Road in Ames Saturday.
The chase began at Ames High School and ended at the corner of Mortensen Road and South Dakota Avenue. The two males ran from the car into a wooded area shortly before being arrested by the Ames Police Department. ISU Police, Story County Sheriff’s Office, Boone County Sherriff’s Office, Boone Police and Iowa State Patrol also assisted in apprehending the individuals.
