ISU golfers trail leader

ISU women’s golfers, Leanne Owens and Sarah Gilbert, currently trail leader Jenny Heinz from Waterloo in the Iowa Women’s Golf Association Amateur Tournament.

Owens, a Creston native, currently stands in fourth place and trails Heinz by five strokes after shooting a two round total of 146 (75-71).

Gilbert, from Ankeny, is in the sixth position after two rounds of the competition. She’s 12 shots back at 153 (77,76).

The final round of action begins today at 8 a.m.with the leaders teeing off around 9:30 a.m.

ISU sailing team excels at nationals

An ISU professor and an alumnus of the university placed second last weekend in the International FJ Class of the 2001 Sailing U.S. Nationals.

ISU Ames Lab associate scientist and adjunct assistant professor of materials science and engineering John Snyder and his partner Storm Lake high school teacher and ISU alumnus Ryan Richardson tied for first in the competition but were awarded second place after a tiebreaker.

Snyder is a current member of the ISU Sailing Club while Richardson is a former member.

Snyder also won the Masters Trophy, which is awarded to the highest finishing skipper over the age of 40.
