No. 18 Iowa State beats Oklahoma 91-70 behind Carleton’s 26 points

For a regular season sweep, No. 18 Iowa State defeated Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma 91-70.

Iowa State was carried to victory by senior Bridget Carleton as the Cyclones dominated the paint on offense and capitalized on the Sooners’ turnovers.

Iowa State beat Oklahoma earlier in the season 104-78.

Carleton led all players in scoring with 26 points (10-14 shooting) and she also tallied eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Three other Cyclones were in double digit points. Kristin Scott had 16 points, Madi Wise had 11 and Ashley Joens had 10.

Alexa Middleton had eight points and eight assists.

Of Iowa State’s 91 points, 40 points came in the paint while Oklahoma was only able to score 22 in the painted area.

On the offensive end of the floor, the Sooners committed 14 turnovers which was only three more than the Cyclones, but Iowa State was able to turn those turnovers into points. The Cyclones totaled 27 points off of turnovers.

At the half, Iowa State only held an 11 point lead of 43-32, but Iowa State were able to build upon their lead by converting 63.2 percent of their shots from the floor.

With the win, Iowa State in 10-4 in the conference and 20-6 overall. Texas, who beat Iowa State earlier in the season 54-52, also has a 10-4 record.

The only team ahead of the Longhorns and Iowa State is No. 1 Baylor.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma falls to 2-12 in the conference and 6-19 overall which places them last in the conference.
