Paul Duncan and David Boike were announced Wednesday as this fall’s Inter-Residence Hall Association president and vice president.

The other slate, Michael Mikkelsen, Wallace Hall representative, and Stan Perdios, Larch Hall representative, was defeated by a vote of 792-137.

Duncan, current IRHA president and Boike, current Union Drive Association at-large, said they were both excited with the student turnout.

“We had a 50 percent increase with this election from last year,” said Boike, sophomore in electrical engineering.

Duncan said their first actions when inaugurated will be to set up their cabinet.

“We plan on having an application process online for anyone interested,” he said. “We’re looking for dedicated, organized and enthusiastic student leaders.”

Perdios, junior in journalism and mass communication, said if he had been elected with Mikkelsen, he would have kept the position instead of his insistence on resigning earlier last week. “Let’s just say that IRHA would need to have a backbone because of all the pressure that IRHA would receive internally if Mikkelsen had been named president,” he said.

After the meeting, Mikkelsen, junior in computer science, said he was thinking of appealing to the election commission about problems with the online slate postings. “Stan had something on there – it wasn’t a profile,” he said. “He told people [on the Web site] not to vote for us. Since he did not have a profile, it’s a violation of the election code.”

IRHA Vice President Steve Skutnik, election commissioner, said he approved Perdios’ profile before it was placed on the Web site. “He can appeal all he wants,” said Skutnik, senior in physics. “I don’t think it’s in violation of the election code, and it would be ridiculous of him to appeal it because of Duncan and Boike’s vast margin of victory.”

Also, Jenny Larson, junior in political science, and Jennie Kingery, junior in biology; Jeff Greiner, junior in history, and Mark Roepke, freshman in pre-business; Keith Twombley, sophomore in computer science, and David Breutzmann, sophomore in computer science, were all named president and vice president of RCA, UDA and Towers Residence Association, respectively.
