Disgruntled about ISU basketball

Letter to the Editor

I just finished watching the Iowa State basketball game against Drake and I am totally disgruntled. I know we’re a young team and that it will take some time to develop, but give me a break! Drake won two games last year and were 2-4 going into the game with Iowa.

They have no player above 6’8″ and no one with any athletic ability. The only positive note of the game is something we already now:

Marcus Fizer is good. Marcus was the only person out there who could score and it showed in the way the rest of the team played. None of our guards penetrate and none of them could hit an outside shot if their life depended on it. My biggest problem is with the point guard.

What is Tim Floyd thinking when he puts Matt Knoll on the floor? He brings nothing positive to the game. The point guard’s job is to penetrate and dish, occasionally hitting the outside jumper — Knoll does none of this. He dribbles the ball up the floor and passes it to the wing; WOW!

I’d like to see more of Lamont Sides at the point guard. He is not afraid to take the open jumper and brings more quickness and athleticism to the floor. Now is the time to give Lamont the experience he needs to help this team in the later parts of the season.

I know it’s early, but come on: no one can be happy about the way we are playing. Hopefully, Coach Floyd can get these guys to play some defense and we can win almost half of our games!
