Students and their parents may have questions about where to park or how to register for classes. They can now find answers to these questions and more under one ceiling.

For this weekend only, university officials will operate the ISU Help Center, located at 210 Beardshear Hall.

“The help center is geared toward first-year students and their parents, but is available to all students for their pre-semester concerns,” said Elizabeth Beck, coordinator of the university honors program.

Although the center has been in existence for two years, this is the first year in which it will be available the weekend before school begins. Last fall, it opened the Monday classes started.

The center will be staffed by ISU personnel from the offices of the registrar, financial aid, admissions, parking, dean of students, orientation and Cyclone Aides.

Students and parents can come in during the weekend to ask staff representing those offices questions or concerns that would otherwise not be answered until the following week, Beck said.

Free parking for the center will be available along Morrill Road during its hours for easier access.

“[Using the center] will not require a lot of lengthy business,” Beck said. “We’re trying to pull it all together so it’s a coordinated effort.”

Students received information about the ISU Help Center with their first university bill earlier this month. Because of this advance notice, Beck said, she expects more students to use the center than last year.

Some offices outside the center also will be open on the weekends for services that are not available there. These include the treasurer’s office and accounts receivable at 122 Beardshear, minority student affairs at 301 Beardshear, ISUCard at the Northwest Lounge of the Memorial Union, the Off-Campus Center at B6 of the Union, the Computation Center at 195-97 Durham, telecommunications at 271 Durham, parking systems at the Armory and the Department of Residence at 1215 Friley Hall.

The ISU Help Center will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There also will be a Help Center hot line available during the center hours at 294-4469.
