A former Iowa State football player pleaded guilty last week to charges stemming from a fight that hospitalized an Ames man.

Angelo Provenza Jr., 22, 1525 Little Bluestem Court, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor, and was fined $50 for a March 29 fight that took place outside of Tazzles, 126 Welch Ave.

He was also fined for court costs and surcharges.

According to the Ames police reports, Chad Bouton, 24, of 2310 Mortensen Road, was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, where he was treated for severe head injuries.

“The only guy who was injured seriously has been under very severe medical care since then,” said Ames Police Chief Dennis Ballantine.

Provenza has been the only person charged in this incident, Ballantine said.

If Bouton hadn’t been as severely injured as he was, there would be a possibility that he too would have been arrested, he said.

“Normally, if there are two combatants, there are two arrests,” Ballantine said.

Ballantine said the investigation on this case is complete.

If convicted, Provenza will face up to 30 days in prison, a fine of $100 or both.
