Waldron reinstated

Jason Waldron was reinstated as an Off-Campus Council senator at Wednesday’s Government of the Student Body meeting.

Waldron was forced to resign at GSB’s Oct. 25 meeting when the senate learned there was one too many off-campus representatives on the Senate. Prior to last week’s resignation, he was the 10th off-campus senator seated. The GSB Constitution only allows for nine off-campus senators.

A bill, proposed by Senators Mark Nimmer and John Tannehill, proposed that Waldron be seated despite the Constitutional requirements because he was selected by the Off-Campus Council.

Sen. Brian Allen agreed.

“If the Off-Campus Council says they want to seat Sen. Waldron; it’s not really up to us,” he said.

However, some senators voiced their opposition to the bill, saying Waldron shouldn’t be seated because there are no seats available.

“It’s nothing against Sen. Waldron. Someone tells you there aren’t seats open, you don’t apply. Someone tells another person there are seats open, that person does apply,” Sen. Matthew Goodman said. “That person gets the nonexisting seats. Anyone else who might have been informed of the actual circumstances is now being treated unfairly.”

Despite Goodman’s concern the vote was 28-0 in favor of reinstating him. “I’m just happy that I got another chance,” he said.
