Ankeny to host Amateur Golf Tourney

If you were watching the U.S. Open golf tournament and had an itching to get on the green, then look no further than Ankeny.

On Sunday, July 9, Ankeny Disc Golf, along with the City of Ankeny, is hosting the third Heritage Park Summerfest “All Amateur” Disc Golf Open.

Amateurs, Novice and Youth divisions are available. Everyone who enters will receive a prize; there will be trophies for 1st through 4th places in every division and a “closest to the pin” prize on every round in every division.

Youth ages nine to 12 will play nine holes of golf; ages 13-15 will play 15 holes. Novices will play 15 holes. Women will play 30 holes, and Amateur I and II will play 30 holes, with the top nine playing an additional nine holes.

Fees are $10 for Amateur I and II and Women, $7 for Novice and $5 for Youth.

You can register at Leisure Services, 400 Lakeshore Drive in Ankeny prior to July 7 or register on the day of the tournament between 8 and 9 a.m.

Free Golf News

For women who are curious about disc golf, or want to find out exactly what it is, Heritage Park in Ankeny will offer free disc golf lessons to women of all ages.

The lessons are given by Kris O’Malley who has been disc golfing since last July.

Every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. you can find O’Malley out on the course giving free lessons.

The equipment is provided by the instructor and the lessons will coincide with a women’s league. For more information call (515) 296-5415 or (515) 964-8028.
