For the ninth time in school history, Iowa State soccer headed to the Big 12 tournament as the 8-seed. This time, the Cyclones faced the defending Big 12 Tournament champions and No. 1 seed Baylor Bears in Kansas City, Missouri, which resulted in a 3-0 win for the Bears on Sunday.

The Cyclones won their last two games of the season at Oklahoma State and in Ames against the Kansas State Wildcats. Iowa State came into Sunday’s matchup with a 4-13-2 (2-6-1 Big 12) record, while the Bears had a 15-4 (8-1 Big 12) record.

In their regular season matchup on Oct. 7 in Ames, the Bears came out with a 2-1 win in double overtime.

Early on, the Cyclones created some good scoring opportunities offensively but were unable to capitalize on those opportunities.

The Bears struck first with a goal by freshman Elena Reyna in the 35th minute. The Bears held a 1-0 lead at the half.

Senior Julie James added to the Bears lead with a goal in the 50th minute to give the Bears a 2-0 advantage over the Cyclones.

The Bears extended their lead to 3-0, as freshman Taylor Moon was fouled in the penalty box and scored the penalty kick in the 65th minute.

Baylor’s 3-0 lead held up, and the Bears knocked off the Cyclones in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinal.

Iowa State struggled offensively throughout the game, as it was held to one shot on goal, coming from sophomore forward Courtney Powell. Meanwhile, the Bears were efficient offensively as they took 16 shots, generated six corner kicks, six shots on goal and three goals.

The Bears will move onto the Big 12 semifinals on Friday, while the Cyclones are headed home.

Iowa State finished the season with a record of 4-14-2 (2-7-1 Big 12).
