Hip-hop artist Charlieonnafriday will perform music from his first album “Onnafriday,” released in April, at the Maintenance Shop on Sept. 22.

With nearly 3 million monthly listeners on Spotify and features with Lil Keed and Kidd G, Charlie Finch has already made a name for himself through his music. He also has upcoming releases with Macklemore, one of his artistic inspirations.

The album’s eight songs add to Finch’s already relevant discography, as he had 15 singles released before this. His top song, “After Hours,” has over 40 million streams, with the rest of his singles reaching over two million streams.

Along with dropping his first album this year, he also finished a tour with Mike Stud, a hip-hop artist, where he was the supporting act.

Student Union Board aims to find upcoming talent and artists who are touring, as they can add Iowa State as a destination between shows. They have a record of hiring acts before they become well-known, such as Twenty-one Pilots and Coin.

“We haven’t had a hip-hop artist here in a little while,” Calvin Kanz, Maintenance Shop co-director, said. “We had Jack Harlow here a bunch of years ago before hardly anyone knew him, and now he’s huge. We try to find artists that are on a similar trajectory, and we think Charlieonnafriday might be one of those artists.”

Since high school, Finch has been making music that reminds him of Friday nights as a teenager in Seattle, where he could let loose at football games. His high-energy beats are meant to uplift listeners and bring them back to these great nights he cherishes.

Finch’s music can also be found on the Spotify playlists “teen beats,” “tear drops,” “Pop Rising” and “Varsity Bars.” Spotify created a playlist based on his work, titled “Charlieonnafriday Radio.”

This all-ages show is set to start at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets are available now for $15, and student tickets, with proof of student ID at the door, are $10. These prices will increase by $2 the day of the show.
