Gridiron Staff Picks: Texas

T.J Tampa celebrates after a play against Kansas State on Oct. 8.

Texas 31, Iowa State 23

Iowa State’s offense has struggled to finish off drives this season, and Texas has a tough front seven.
The Cyclone offense needs to turn it around here, and I believe it will slowly start to right the ship.

With that being said, Texas is a wildly talented team. When Quinn Ewers is playing, the Longhorn offense looks tough to stop.

The Iowa State defense has been phenomenal all year, but this Texas team is a new threat. The Longhorns have both a strong run game and can air the ball out downfield.

Give me Texas in this one.

Iowa State, 14, Texas 10

Well, looks like the sports desk is all even with our records. I keep having faith that the Cyclones will come out with a win but clearly, that hasn’t been the case recently.

As we’ve seen and heard, Matt Campbell really believes his team is “inches” away from victory.
We’ve seen the Cyclone defense hold the opposing team to low-score games, and I think it will be another week of that.

As for the Cyclone offense, they are going to have to step up and bring 110% to the field. Away games are always tougher, and without the home-field advantage, they have to show up and show out.

While I debated back and forth about who to pick, I’ve chosen to ride with Iowa State.
I hope this is their week to show fans the team they truly are and show how much they have improved.

This is the week to get a Big 12 win.

I’ll be honest. At this point in the season, I would have imagined Iowa State would be doing much better than they currently are.
I had faith in the talents of the offense and really wanted to see Hunter Dekkers cook.

However, now that we’re at the halfway point in the season, I’m starting to have my doubts. The offense hasn’t been living up to the hype in the last few games, and it’s clear the team is frustrated and wants to get things moving in the right direction.

I think this is the week the Cyclones get back on track. I don’t think the offensive issues can be sorted out in a week, but I believe in the defense and think they can keep the game within reach.

It may be a hot take, but I don’t think Texas is as good as the other Big 12 teams the Cyclones have faced this year. Yes, I know Quinn Ewers is back, and he lit up Oklahoma, and yes, I see the promise in the Longhorns’ defense after the shutout. Even with all that considered, I believe the Cyclones can match up well against Texas and sneak away with a victory.

Texas 41, Iowa State 11

Historically, Texas football’s season depends on whether the Longhorns take home the Golden Hat.

ICYMI: Texas shut out Oklahoma this weekend, 49-0. Boy is college football in trouble.
Sure, Oklahoma looks about as competent as the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth quarter, but I believe that caliber of a win could carry Texas to a Big 12 Championship.

Saturday’s matchup is just a warmup game for Texas before it takes Oklahoma State on the road. Even with the Cyclones’ esteemed rushing defense, I don’t hold much faith that Will McDonald and company can hold off the Longhorns’ skill players *ahem* Bijan Robinson *ahem* Xavier Worthy *ahem* Ja’Tavion Sanders. I think Quinn Ewers’ mullet itself will scare the Cardinal and Gold out of Austin.

I don’t care that the Cyclones have a three-game winning streak against the Longhorns. Texas is back, baby.

Iowa State 10, Texas 0

As a slightly disenfranchised student with little involvement in or knowledge of Cyclone athletics, I have little authority to predict the outcome of this weekend’s game.

However, Iowa State rules, Texas is lame, and Iowa State will for sure come out on top this weekend.

Despite the fact that the Longhorns are a strong team with a better record than the Cyclones, I have faith in my team to play hard and prove, once and for all, that the Texas Longhorns are only a band of loose cattle, without the organization necessary to stand up to the well-oiled machine that is Cyclone athletics.
