Ames Community Theater musical open for auditions
Ames Community Theater is calling all country and blues actors skilled in instruments such as the guitar, electric guitar, steel guitar, banjo, bass, drums and accordion to audition for their summer musical on Feb. 8 or 15 from 7-9 p.m. Auditions will be held in the ACTORS studio at 120 Abraham Drive.
The summer musical is “Pump Boys and Dinettes.” Set on Highway 57 in North Carolina, the show is about four men who work at a gas station and two sister waitresses who work at the diner next to it. The men are the “pump boys” and play various instruments at a professional level throughout the show. The sisters play several percussion instruments.
Tyler Hoenig, an academic adviser at Iowa State who sits on the Board of Directors at Ames Community Theater: ACTORS, Inc., said he is happy to continue supporting the nonprofit community theater group through his role on the board and now that he is back as a staff member at Iowa State.
“Being a member of ACTORS: Ames Community Theater and helping out in shows, whether on stage or off, are some of the happiest experiences from my undergrad at ISU,” Hoenig stated in an email to the Daily.
During auditions, actors will play several pieces from the musical. It is recommended that actors listen to the songs “Catfish,” “Best Man,” “Save Yourself” and “Drinkin’ Shoes.”
The actual performance dates are June 8-10, 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and June 25 at 2 p.m.
“I recommend ACTORS to anyone! Whether you want to volunteer or just be an audience member, ACTORS is a great way to get involved in the Ames Community and meet people outside of Iowa State,” Hoenig stated in an email to the Daily.
Interested actors with questions should direct them to [email protected] or call 515-292-2073.
