For the majority of the summer, the commuter parking lot by Jack Trice Stadium has been under construction. More change came when the CyRide hub moved from the southwest end of the lot to the northeast corner on Aug. 7.
Nathan Graves, FP&M senior construction manager, said the CyRide hub will now be “diagonally across [the commuter] lot’s turning location.” Graves’ goal for the time being is for the public to be aware of the new permanent location before fall semester starts.
“The benefit is just an obvious ability to park and have the commuter lot be open and available to students,” said Lauren Schalinske, divisional communications lead for the Division of operations and finance.
Graves said the lots are being updated because of how old they are and the large amount of repairs needed, but should not need to be repaired again for several years. In order to complete the lots’ updates, the bus stop had to be moved.
The cost relocating the bus stop was not disclosed, but comes from a larger budget for the parking lot renovations.
“We’re glad we can hopefully get this in front of some more students,” Graves said. “They do use the commuter lots, getting over there and enjoying the new location, or at least knowing that it’s there.”
