The Cyclones volleyball team is 6-0 for the first time since 2017 and coming off a thrilling comeback against in-state rival Iowa.
The Cyclones will look to keep the undefeated season alive when they travel to Omaha this weekend for the Omaha Invite.
The Cyclones’ first matchup is against Omaha at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Omaha has had a tough start to the season, going 0-4 to start the season while only winning one set in those matches. Though the team has yet to win a match, it may be in part due to a difficult schedule.
Omaha has played Texas A&M, Kansas and Kansas State and was a part of the match against Nebraska that saw 92,003 people pack Memorial Stadium, breaking the world record for attendance at a women’s sporting event.
Omaha doesn’t catch any breaks this weekend having to face an undefeated Iowa State team and Creighton who come into the weekend ranked No. 16 in the nation.
The Cyclones’ second game of the weekend is against No. 16 Creighton on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Cyclones faced Creighton in last season’s opening match, falling 0-3 to at the time the No. 18 team in the country.
This season’s Creighton squad seems to be just as strong as it has worked its way to a 5-2 record, losing only to No. 4 Nebraska and Duke in 5 sets.
The Bluejays are no doubt the toughest opponent the Cyclones will have faced and it will take their best performance if they want to upset the team.
The Cyclones will need their stars to continue to step up this weekend.
Jordan Hopp, Nayeli Gonzalez and Annie Hatch were all named to the GCU all-tournament team last weekend, with Hatch taking home tournament MVP. If that group along with star sophomore Maya Duckworth continues to shine, they will have a chance to continue this season’s historic start.
The match against Omaha at 6 p.m. Saturday can be streamed on Midco Sports but requires a subscription.
