Ames is packed with exciting weekend activities and with no football game scheduled at Jack Trice Stadium, catching up with the music, movies and market scene in town is easier than ever.
Wednesday
Arcy Drive, an indie rock band from Northport, NY, will perform at 8 p.m. in the Maintenance Shop as part of “The Stattic Tour.” Fans of The Backseat Lovers, Mt. Joy and Rex Orange County are encouraged to attend the performance. Tickets start out at $18, though they cost $14 with student ID. There is a $2 price increase on the day of the show.
Kristen Erdman will host a Textured Flower Painting Workshop from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Workspace. Students will use palette knives and textured paint mediums to create two 3D floral paintings. The class costs $30 for ISU members and $40 for the general public.
Thursday
Cyclone Cinema will show “John Wick: Chapter 4” this week in Carver 101. The movie will be shown through Sunday and starts at 7 p.m. every night. Admission is free, with snacks and drinks priced at $1 and $2.
Poet and theologian Pádraig Ó Tuama will host the “Poetry and Conflict Resolution” lecture at 6 p.m. in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union. The University Bookstore will be onsite selling copies of his books. This lecture is part of the Pearl Hogrefe Visiting Writer Series.
Visitors to the Memorial Union Art Gallery will get the chance to meet artist Alexandra Ackerman and view her Serious Play Exhibit from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.
Starting Thursday, Ames Community Theater (ACTORS) will perform “The Play That Goes Wrong”. The play, written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, is described as a “disastrously delightful spoof of community theater.” The play will run through Sep. 24, and tickets cost $20.
Saturday
The Ames Farmers’ Market will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Main Street. Visitors can buy from local farmers, craftspeople and vendors while enjoying food from Ames restaurants and listening to free music.
Week-long
The Workspace will be hosting two drop-in crafts all week. Students can make a boho tassel wall hanging from colorful cords and driftwood or create air plant terrariums. Additionally, students will be able to paint their own fairy, frog or fungi-themed pottery all week. All crafts are available as take-home kits for an extra charge. The Workspace is open from 2-9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
