The Cyclone gymnastics team will travel to Boise State’s home turf of Boise, Idaho, for the fifth gymnastics meet of the season Friday. The Cyclones will enter off the backs of two wins at home, seeking their first road victory under rookie head coach Ashley Miles Greig.
The Cyclones’ season so far has been a success, with three straight meets where the Cyclones scored at least 196 points.
The team currently holds a record of 2-2, with both losses coming in extremely close fashion. Their meet last week against Illinois State was their most dominant win thus far, winning by almost two full points. The team now sits at No. 19, the highest ranking this season. This also makes the team the third-highest ranked Big 12 team under No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 10 Denver.
Freshman Noelle Adams and junior Hannah Loyim have heavily led the performances.
So far, Adams has scored 9.9 points in the floor exercise at all but one meet. She has also managed to score above the 9.8 mark in both the balance beam and the vault.
Loyim collects points as the main all-around performer for the Cyclones. Though putting up impressive numbers in all four portions of her meets, she shines, especially in the parallel uneven bars.
On the other side of the mat, Boise State enters with a 5-2 record. One of their losses came against No. 4 Utah. However, the other came against unranked Arizona. The Broncos boasted a win over Nebraska, who the Cyclones faced and lost to in their first meet. The team enters without a loss in nearly a month and is undefeated at home throughout the 2024 season.
Friday’s contest will also be the first of two meets that the two teams will have against one another, as they meet again to end the month on Feb. 26. The meet will begin at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast via the Mountain West Network.
