This Thursday, students who enjoy the dreamy sounds of indie music are in luck, as Landon Conrath will perform at 8 p.m. at the Maintenance Shop.
Conrath, from Minneapolis, embodies the Midwestern indie rock sound with much of his music. His most popular song, “2AM,” details the struggles that come with being in a ‘situationship’ with a friend.
Conrath started his solo career in 2020 after spending years as the drummer in bands, keeping the beat in the background rather than fronting them. Because of his unique history with instruments, Conrath is a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, even though he can normally be found playing guitar and singing on stage.
This will be Conrath’s first time back at the Maintenance Shop since March.
“I would say he’s giving a little bit of…that old boy band type of thing, kind of that new generation pop style,” said Ary Bermeo, Maintenance Shop co-director. “He’s definitely pop—indie pop is the genre we’d put him in.”
Conrath will be performing alongside The Whips, who will be opening for him. Made up of four lifelong friends, The Whips is a self-described funk, pop and soul band from Kansas City.
“[The Whips are] always just having a good time on the stage, always incorporating the crowd, so it’s just like everybody’s having a good time,” Bermeo said.
Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night. Tickets are $12 with a valid student ID and $16 without. All ticket prices will go up by $2 on the day of the show. Interested students can enter the ticket giveaway on the Maintenance Shop’s Instagram page, which will be open until 5 p.m. Wednesday.
