The second cross-country meet for Iowa State proved beneficial for both teams. At the Greeno/Dirksen Invite in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Cyclone women placed second as a team and the men ran four individuals who all placed in the top 15.
Women’s Recap
The Iowa State women took second as a team at the Greeno/Dirksen Invite with a total of 53 points, getting beat by host team Nebraska (36 points) but outrunning Northern Colorado, Drake, Omaha, Air Force and Creighton, whose fifth runner didn’t finish.
Leading the way for the Cyclones was junior Aspen Fulbright, who finished with a time of 17:54.26, placing fifth individually. Junior Ashlyn Keeney also placed in the top 10 (eighth) with a time of 18:01.55.
Rounding out the results for the women were freshman Ruby Hughes (11th, 18:07.82), redshirt sophomore Mya Trober (13th, 18:22.80), freshman Keelee Leitzen (16th, 18:41.31), and freshman Camryn Sattler (17th, 18:41.38)
Men’s Recap
In the men’s 8K, Iowa State had only four runners participating. Sophomore Emanuel Galdino raced to second individually with a time of 24:42.69. Senior Quinton Orr followed him up in third with a time of 24:53.02.
Freshman Allen Bonnesen finished in sixth (25:17.87) and sophomore Ernie Mattson finished 11th (25:34.67). While the Cyclone men had only four runners, their dominance (with an additional runner) could’ve given Iowa State a first-place team finish.
Looking Forward
On Friday, the men and women will head to the University of Wisconsin for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. This meet will feature some of the best programs in the nation, giving the Cyclones a good preview of what to expect at the National Championship meet.
