Three accidents, gas line rupture reported within an hour of each other

A gas line rupture and multiple accidents have occurred in Ames within an hour of each other. 

The gas line on Hyde Avenue ruptured near the Welbeck Drive intersection. Due to the rupture, part of Hyde Avenue will be blocked off until further notice, according to Ames Police. 

Alliant Energy is currently on the scene trying to fix the rupture. It is unsure when the line will be fixed. 

Three accidents also occurred in Ames. 

At 4:20 p.m., an accident was reported near Hwy 30 Southbound. Lieutenant Shelton said the accident has been cleared and those involved sustained injuries. 

At 4:56 p.m., a different car accident was reported near the intersection of Mortensen Road and Ash Avenue and is in the process of being cleared. Lieutenant Tom Shelton of the Ames Police said those involved in the accident sustained injury but he did not know to what extent. 

The final accident occurred at 5:25 p.m. near the intersection of Stange Road and 13th Street. No one was injured and the accident has been cleared, Lieutenant Shelton said. 

“I put out the tweet to let people know we’ll get to the non-emergency calls as soon as possible,” Lieutenant Shelton said. “Everything seems to be happening at once.”
