AMES – The 2025 tennis season is around the corner, and after finishing 4-17, the Cyclones are looking to build off their strong fall showings with the start of the spring season.
Iowa State will start its season in a dual meet at home versus North Texas and Omaha. After the opener, the Cyclones’ out-of-conference slate continues against Minnesota, in-state rival Iowa, Wyoming, Illinois, South Dakota and Colorado State.
Then, Iowa State will turn its attention to in-conference competition. It starts with back-to-back road tests against Colorado and Texas Tech. Afterward, the Cyclones will host Arizona and Arizona State.
Iowa State will then face UCF and Houston on the road. After that, the Cyclones will play Baylor and TCU in Ames. Next, it’s onto the Beehive State to face BYU and Utah.
Iowa State will close the regular season in Ames versus Big 12-mainstays Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma State.
The Cyclones will face this 21-game schedule with three returning starters in senior Anna Supapitch Kuearum, sophomore Ashlee Narker and sophomore Valeska San Martin Ramirez.
Filling out the rest of the team are five freshmen, Mari Paz Alberto, Julia Camblor, Gabriela Felix, Suzanie Pretorius and Cristina Ramos Sierra. The freshmen make up what was the No. 20 recruiting class in the country and second in the Big 12.
The five freshmen combined for a 39-18 fall singles record. Along with the freshmen, Kuearum is going to be another player to watch out for. She begins the season ranked as the No. 64 singles player in the country. Kuearum finished the fall campaign going 8-2 in singles matches and 2-0 in the Duel in the Desert.
Under second-year coach Jaron Maestas, the Cyclones look poised for a strong season. With a talented roster to go the distance, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say Iowa State could return to the heights it experienced in the 2022-23 season.
Starting the spring season Friday, the Cyclones will debut their brand-new tennis facility in Ames, hosting a dual meet versus North Texas at 9:30 a.m. and Omaha at 3 p.m.
