The first reading of a proposed campus concert bill was at Wednesday’s Student Government Senate meeting.
Almost every member of the executive and legislative branches — over 50 people — was listed as sponsoring the bill. Director of Governmental Affairs Colby Brandt, who is campaigning for president, was not listed.
The bill requests $150,000 from the special projects account – with a current balance of $1,411,205.98 – to purchase 3,000 in “free and/or discounted” student tickets at Hilton Coliseum for a campus concert. A free concert for students at Jack Trice Stadium was a primary campaign point for Student Government President Martin Hursh, a junior in economics, and Vice President Quinn Margrett, a junior in business economics.
“That number can always increase over time as well,” Hursh said. “It’s preliminary.”
Hilton has a capacity of 14,267, with approximately 2,400 seats in the student section. 3,000 is the initial amount of tickets planned to be available to students, more tickets will be available according to Hursh.
“This Campus Concert is slated to occur later this semester, with negotiations nearing completion with two platinum award winning artists to headline the event,” the bill states.
The bill will be voted on during the next Senate meeting on Feb. 26 in the Memorial Union.
